MATCHA MILLSTONE

---OVERVIEW---

The stone material used is the extremely rare "highest grade black granite". This stone is characterized by the absence of crystalline particles and a higher specific gravity compared to other granites.

The surface is roughened with a chisel to create the appearance of a stone picked up from a riverbed.

Then, the surface is carved and polished to give the impression of being rounded and smoothed by rolling along the river bottom.

This process gives a subtle reflection to the entire side surface and creates a unique atmosphere with irregular chisel marks.

---DESIGN---

The required amount of "TENCHA" is placed on the top millstone, and by repeating this process, it can grind enough for many people.

Fill the top millstone's hole with tea leaves, and by continuously turning the handle counterclockwise, the ground "MATCHA" will automatically fall into the receiving tray.

This process generates no heat, which can be a problem, and there is no deterioration in the flavor of the tea leaves.

The diameter of the grinding surface was determined to be 5.0 sun (about 15cm), which is sufficient based on prototype results, and the height of the top millstone was decided based on the necessary weight.

The bottom millstone has a donut-shaped groove on the outer circumference of the grinding surface with a diameter of 5 sun, a width of 8-9 bu (24mm-27mm), and a depth of 5 bu (15mm), designed to receive the ground powder.

There is a "hole" in one place of the donut-shaped groove, and the ground powder falls from the groove into the hole with each rotation due to the "brush" attached to the lower part of the top millstone.

The "hole" part of the bottom millstone is processed to have an opening of 10cm wide, 10cm deep, and 6cm high to allow a "receiving tray" to be set, determining the height of the bottom millstone.
